Hike and Campfire
Izaak Walton in Homewood, IL
Sunday, Feb. 15

We finally caught a break after all the bad weather and cancellations this winter.  And what a break it was!  The weather was amazing.  We were actually shedding layers on our walk and at the campfire.  Hikers met at 10:00 and first walked around the pond.  Then we continued and finished up at around 4 miles.  It seems everyone's "gadgets" give different mileage, but 4 miles should be about right.   Bernie's dog, Charlie, joined us for the walk. The highlight for Charlie was definitely any squirrel that crossed his path.

After the hike, we enjoyed sitting around a fire, roasting hot dogs and just enjoying the afternoon.  We had a lot of wood, but the day was so warm we ended up bringing it back home for another day.  The same can't be said for the hot dogs, snacks and deserts.  Those were eaten and enjoyed.

February Dinner Social Gathering and Meeting

On a chilly Thursday evening, FOS held its quarterly meeting at Speedy Burrito in Tinley Park.  I know, I know, you’re thinking, you’re wrong, it was held at Saigon restaurant. It’s right here on the FOS calendar. Well, we were going to go there but for some reason it was closed with a handwritten sign stating the obvious…. So, a nearby Mexican place called “Speedy Burrito” was our place for the meeting. And it turned out that it was very good. Everything was made to order & delicious.

Despite the confusion, ten members showed up for the event. Prez JoDell went over the expense of obtaining permits & stated some of the upcoming events for the club for 2026. The 2026 Spring Fling will be held on Sunday June 7, 2026. She reiterated that the 2027 Spring Fling leader position will be vacant after 2026 and needs someone to volunteer for it after this year. After lingering to socialize, the meeting was adjourned.
